@Ri L.: Duchess Gummybuns: she has a hero instruct a heroine practicing martial arts on a dummy by saying "pretend it said your butt looks fat in those pants."

Hahaha, oh god, really?! If I go to that panel, and they praise her, my eyes are going to roll right out of my head. Of course they started rolling when I saw "Anita Blake" and haven't stopped.

Is she also the person who has everyone end up settling down, with their ultimate goal in life being suburban domestic bliss?

I read a book recently (you'd hate it) where half-way through the half-demon and the demon-slayer adopt this dying orphan, and the crazy toddler spends the rest of the book saving the day and making them go "squee" when they see each other playing with it.

We have the messiah and this bad-ass rugged loner type, and all they want to do is play house.

I hadn't noticed that trope before, but UGH!

@Ri L.: Duchess Gummybuns: Aww, Mr. L is a sweetie.

BTW, I'm going to a convention this weekend, and this is the description of one of the panels:

Romance, Revised and Reconsidered: Can We Make Smart Feminism Sell?

Romance crosses onto SF/F turf with authors such as Jennifer Crusie visiting ghost stories in Maybe This Time; Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series (one of the mothers of paranormal) and J. D. Robb's "in Death" procedurals. The strong-willed central characters drive the story and sell the books—but are they feminist? Julia Quinn writes more "classic" romance—but what does that mean in Regency terms given Pride and Prejudice and Zombies et al.? K e rrelyn Sparks' heroines set romance tropes on end with a great deal of humor as does Jennifer Stevenson, and Jayne Anne Krentz revisits romance, paranormal, and fantasy under different pseudonyms. What makes them sell? Are there common feminist elements we can identify? Background: [juliaquinn.com]
M: Jennifer Stevenson. Jim Leinweber, Jesi Lea Ryan, Susie

... is this the splooge lady?

Arrgh, I'm driving to Wisconsin today, and I should have left hours ago, but I have a package arriving today that I would really like to receive, as well as three more packages locked in the front office. The apartment manager is NEVER here!

In related news, tomorrow is my birthday, yippas! Lets not talk about how close I'm getting to 30. 0_o

I'm thinking about bringing my Mass Effect games to shove at my friend and whine until she plays them, but they're for the Xbox 360. Will she be able to play them on her XBox 360 or will DRM get in the way of that now?

Speaking of sharing digital things, I now have access to my dad's HBO Go login information! Woo! What are good things to watch on HBO?

My replies will be slow this weekend, due to travel and stuff.

ZOMG you guys. I've posted on here several times about maybe shopping for a sofa, but we actually bought one today.

[www1.macys.com]

Ahhhhhhhh!

I always feel a sense of vertigo about big purchases, even though I know it's just part of life. The current sofa is way beyond the point where it should have been replaced, and this sofa is on sale and super comfortable, but still. Vertigo.

@bananafishtoday: Huhhh. I'm a too tired to process this right now, but I can tell that if I were less tired I would be very interested, haha.

I'll be AWOL from the internet over the weekend (for WisCon [wiscon.info]) but I look forward to asking you more questions about this next week.

@L-Dizzle: The movie was kind of a disappointment, wasn't it? I didn't like how they modernized the music.

They could have done a Gatsby set in modern times, and that would have been really interesting, but one of the things people love most about 20s-themed stuff is the swing and jazz...

@badluckgirl can't log in: *hug*

The fact that he blocked you is a good sign, I think it means he's probably not going to stalk you.

@5 ft of fury:therapy parrot : Well, part of the job of the bridesmaids is to help the bride keep her head out of the clouds. You could just tell her that you'd rather wear knee-length chiffon, considering the weather.

@Memento(Der Metzgermeister)Morie: ... yeah, I think that's fair.

@bananafishtoday: That was great!

I didn't understand the Fair Use rant, though?

Humvee doors, PS3 specs, blah blah, anti-government, stargate portal?
